It started with a single post
On July 12, 2026, someone posted this on Chinese social media:
VibeCoding is so advanced these days, can someone Vibe a "Cyber Buddha" pantheon website? You open it and Cloudflare's logo sits dead center, C-position, surrounded by clouds. Every product can be offered incense, bowed to, and ranked up. Make it and I promise to share it widely.
50,000 people saw it. The poster was probably just wishing out loud.
Two days later, someone actually built it.
What got built
Cyber Buddha (cyber-buddha.online) went live. Here's what it is: a leaderboard that treats free developer tools as living buddhas.
Now, a quick cultural note for readers unfamiliar with East Asian religious vocabulary. In Chinese Buddhist and folk tradition, a "living buddha" (活佛) is a revered figure people visit to seek blessings. Devotees offer incense (上香) to express gratitude, and "merit" (功德) is a spiritual currency that accumulates through good deeds. "Tribulation" (渡劫) is a trial a deity or cultivator must survive. Cyber Buddha borrows this entire framework and applies it to SaaS tools.
So: Cloudflare is Buddha #01. GitHub, Vercel, Supabase follow. You can offer incense (give thanks, merit goes up) or trigger tribulation (criticize, merit goes down). Each tool gets a half-serious tagline. Cloudflare is "Edge as spine, Worker as spirit, guardian of 300+ cities worldwide."
Someone used temple language to redefine cloud infrastructure. And committed to it fully.
I jumped in too
When I saw the original post, I replied with a suggestion:
Actually, you should collect some incense money. That's what gives it real participation. Otherwise the devotion isn't sincere.
The poster paused, then asked a good question: does the incense money go to me, or to the original tool company?
That question is more interesting than any answer. If the money goes to the companies, it becomes a tipping platform. If it goes to the website, it becomes a donation box. If it's split, it becomes a cyber temple that takes a cut. Every path is absurd. Every path works.
Why anyone buys into worshipping their tools
Cloudflare won't give you extra CDN traffic because you offered incense. GitHub won't push your repo to the front page because you bowed. Vercel does not care how many times you kneeled before its altar.
But developers genuinely owe these tools something. Free CDN, free repos, free deployment, these things have saved careers and startups. Cyber Buddha takes a gratitude that costs nothing to feel and was never expressed anywhere, and turns it into a public ritual you can participate in. The merit value is basically collective reputation voting, just dressed in monastery robes.
The form is absurd. The feeling is real.
Building a website in two days is the actual point
The post went up July 12. The site launched two days later.
It used to take weeks to get from idea to launch: requirement docs, design files, development sprints, testing, deployment. Now one person with AI compresses all of it into 48 hours.
Cyber Buddha might be useful, might be useless, might be forgotten by next week. But its existence proves something: the cost of building a website has dropped so low that "one post plus one weekend" is enough.
There will be more things like this. Some survive because the vibe is right. Most rot quietly on some server somewhere, becoming the creative debris of the AI era.
